#Pretti5Review by Kylie: Gen Z Insight About Skincare and Makeup

“If I'm going out to Sephora to buy skincare, I will always look for cruelty free and normally vegan ones.”

On her journey to fame, student and content creator Kylie Kirk talks with us about skincare and makeup and how these two things kickstarted her career as a rising influencer. She sits down with Pretti5 for a closer look into how her online presence evolved into something more.

Growing up in the “Get Ready With Me” Era
It is not typically expected for a 13 year old kid to start doing drag makeup but this is how Kylie started. Growing up exposed to Youtube’s “get ready with me” era, she started quite early with her fascination with beauty.

“My first introduction was like in 2016–huge brows, the Anastasia Beverly Hills craze. The first form of makeup that I did was drag, which is by far, in my opinion, the hardest form of makeup, and that was in, like, eighth grade. So I was 13 doing insane makeup.”

A lot of makeup goes hand-in-hand with a lot of skincare, and Kylie acknowledges this fact and knows that it’s going to be with her forever as she gets older. Like many young adults, there wasn’t much she knew about skincare before. Now, she emphasizes the importance of double cleansing and using toner. Curating the perfect lineup of skincare is something she loves to do and something she finds transformative in a way.

Passion, Consistency, and Finding the Right Products

Considering herself now as a content creator and influencer, Kylie is trying to focus on doing it full-time despite only taking it seriously last year. Working freelance for Korean brands like Innisfree and Laneige was also a good introduction for Kylie to Eastern skincare. Her passion for it landed her more serious brand partnerships and now an invitation for an event in New York. With skincare as her niche, she finds herself discovering the perfect products that work best for her.

“The biggest thing for me is I have pretty clear skin, thank God. But my eyebags are hereditary. I love any eye cream I use. I think before I started freelancing, I never really used eye cream. And then my account executive and my mom, even before, told me that I need to. After I started using eye cream, I definitely noticed a really great difference in my eyebags. Besides that, just hormonal acne like right now I just have a minor breakout on my forehead but that's about it.”

An Influencer’s Duty

It’s important for Kylie to use her platform correctly. Inevitably, she will be asked to try out a lot of stuff to educate and share the knowledge with her audience whether those are paid partnerships or something out of her own volition.

As a 20 year old, she opts out to use anti-ageing product that she doesn’t really need at a young age. She prioritizes sensitivity in her choices considering her occasional skin breakouts despite having normal skin. On top of that, Kylie is particular about clean beauty and sustainable practices which reflects on her choice of brands. One of her favorites, Provence, is a French brand produced in America. Beyond conventional skincare, she appreciates the brand’s commitment to environmental and labor considerations.

However, Kylie gets real about the nature of the beauty industry and how not every brand is the same:

“If I'm going out to Sephora to buy skincare, I will always look for cruelty free and normally vegan ones.”

A First Impression of Pretti5 and the Dry Skin Routine

Right off the bat, Kylie is majorly impressed with the website; the color palette, the minimalism of the packaging, and more so the Instagram feed. It’s important to her that a brand also has a purpose and is happy that Pretti5 is dedicated to taking bigger steps to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

“I like the lineup that you guys have. It's super vast and so big. I like that there's genuinely a product for everyone; like every age range which is super awesome.”

Changes in season means cold days will bring her dry skin. For Kylie, hydration is pretty important and must be integrated into her daily routine. The Pretti5 Dry Skin routine is formulated and curated specifically for this concern. A 5-step, 5-product routine will ensure total hydration from cleansing to moisturizing for days when the skin is feeling dry and dull.

Step 1: Hydro-Power Brightening Cleanser - Mild yet highly effective, a pea-sized amount of this cleanser will do the trick. Spread it around to build a fine, gentle foam to cleanse the face without stripping away its natural oils.

Step 2: Purifying Hydrating Toning Essence - Pat gently onto the face and careful not to over-exfoliate if using cotton pads.

Step 3: Intensive Water-Glow Moisturizer - Lock in the moisture immediately after toning.

Step 4: Miracle Glow Facial Oil - Extra hydration doesn’t hurt. Mix and apply evenly on the face.

Step 5: Hydro-Rescue Repairing Night Mask - Apply as an overnight remedy or massage onto face as a thick layer for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
