#Pretti5Review by Kate: A Transparent Look at Sustainable Skincare
“I use my platform to be open, authentic, and kind to others.”
Combining her longtime passion for writing and storytelling with her recent interest in marketing is how Kate found her path as a content creator. As a young influencer and student, she regularly practices and develops her scriptwriting, filming, and editing skills to produce high-quality content for her audience, and has already gotten to work with some of her favorite brands in skincare and fashion.
Kate wants to continue to grow her platform with authenticity, and create content that is transparent about trends, “I always use the products I share on social media. I find it unethical to convince others to buy a product I wouldn’t use in my daily life.”
Finding Her Footing
Although Kate has successfully launched her career, collaborating with new brands every month, it hasn’t always been easy for her. She candidly shares how growing up surrounded by social media as a member of Gen Z has been harmful in many ways, “I’ve fallen into the trap of comparing myself to others.” She notes that the surplus of beauty stores in her area furthers these negative feelings, contributing to “anxiety and body image issues” for many.
Even though Gen Z regularly uses social media, taking her first steps into the influencer space was also difficult. “When I started creating content and posting on social media, I worried people would laugh at me and judge me,” Kate explains, “instead, the online community welcomed me with open arms.” Having faced her fears head-on, Kate aims to use her platform to show others to be open, genuine, and kind.
Transparency in Skincare
For Kate, skincare is a non-negotiable, “my face benefits greatly when I use high-quality ingredients.” However, she also cares about her impact and the impact beauty brands make on the world around them. “I don't believe my skincare should come at the expense of the environment,” Kate explains, “I am grateful for the platform I have and choose to use it to promote as many environmentally friendly and cruelty-free products as possible.”
Supporting Socially Impactful Brands
Kate emphasizes her brand’s authenticity by choosing to work primarily with vegan and cruelty-free brands. She models taking small steps like researching and choosing companies that align with her values so that her followers can also purchase from brands that make positive impacts on both the beauty community and the environment.
When it comes to environmental and social impact, Kate hopes more companies “‘walk the walk’ instead of simply talking the talk.” How this manifests is different from brand to brand, but in the skincare realm, this can look like sustainable and minimal packaging, formulation practices that minimize or avoid animal by-products, and cruelty-free labels.
